Frankie from MTV's Real World Dies at 25!!

Oh my goodness! Did you watch the MTV Real World San Diego season? Remember Frankie, the punk girl with cystic fibrosis? Well, she passed away in her home with her mother by her side. How very sad…

Frankie Abernathy, the punk rock-adoring former “Real World: San Diego” housemate whose struggle with cystic fibrosis helped to further raise national awareness about the chronic lung disease, died Saturday evening in her mother Abbie Hunter’s Shorewood, Wisconsin, home. An official cause of death has yet to be determined; Abernathy was 25.

According to Hunter, Abernathy was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis — a hereditary disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive tract — at the age of 3. She is survived by a sister, Mamie; her mother; stepfather Perry, and her dad, Joe Abernathy, who now resides in Texas.

“It was very sudden,” her mother said. “It wasn’t something that was expected. She was doing fine, and we really don’t know very much yet. It still was kind of a shock, and it just wasn’t how we figured things would go. It seems like her little body just gave out.”

That's terrible. I know that disease isn't a very nice one, but I didn't know that you could die so young from it! That poor family...

That's crazy I don't think early death is one of the main concerns with cystic fibrosis especially if she was "fine". There's gotta be somethin else, I THINK.

So sad too, she's only a few years older than me, I couldn't even imagine my life ending right now

I really feel for her family...I watched that season and you could see the issues she was having with her breathing...SOoo young..

That is very sad. Hate to see people die that young. Not to change the subject but they told me my baby might have that when she was born, I wanted to kill! after taking all these different test she was fine it was the nurses that did something wrong for the test to show that.

I watched this San Diego season of Real World, too. I think one time, Frankie was getting sick on one of the episodes and didn't her roommates think Frankie was making worse then it was or something? I forget

i remeber she also had a MAJOR cutting problem and went to see the doctor on one episode about it, maybe that had somethen to do with it?
